Ridge Trail - Pálava Horseshoe
Challenge duration
Description
The aim of the challenge is to walk at least 16 of the 18 selected peaks of Pálava and the adjacent Dunajovice hills in 2024. The challenge has been prepared by Sehraná Věrka with valuable advice from Advisor.
Come and walk the Pálava Horseshoe
Crossing the Pálava is a matter of the heart and if you ever visit it, you will want to come back. It's no wonder, there's beautiful scenery, good people, excellent wine and relaxation. Lately, I think there has been a big influx of people, especially in the summer, and that is why we would like to show you the lesser known but equally beautiful area of the Dunajovice Hills, which you will find right next to the Pálava.
The name Pálava Horseshoe is only symbolic. We called the challenge so because the selected peaks form the shape of a horseshoe. This ridge, if you can call it that, has two stages. The first Pálava part leads from Dívčí hradů in front of the Pálava ridge along the NS Děvín and NS Mikulov wine trails to Kočičí skála and from there along the red trail to Turold and to Mikulov to Svatý Kopeček. Cyclists beware, leave your bikes at home for this part, there is a ban for bikes here, so only on foot! Finally, we have included Mikulov Castle in the challenge, which is such a cultural icing on the cake. As the peak is located in the castle grounds, we have made this peak optional and if you skip it, you can still complete the challenge.
The second part of Dunajovice starts with Ořechova hora and continues along the nature trail along the individual peaks of the Dunajovice Hills National Park to the last peak with the fitting name of Dunajovický hill and the finish in Dolní Dunajovice. You can definitely take your bike here. If you keep your eyes open, you will see why these places are protected by the highest level of nature conservation. This is an area with exceptionally high biodiversity, where many rare plants and animals grow. So please be respectful of nature and don't go anywhere off the marked trails.
I believe you will enjoy your stay here.
