Ridge Trail - Ještěd-Kozákov Ridge

The aim of the challenge is to walk and save a visit to at least 28 of the 31 ridge tops during 2024. This challenge has been planned by Hindy.

Hindy is here to take you on a crossing of the Ještěd-Kozákov Ridge

"The beautiful, almost iconic route of North Bohemia will take you along the entire ridge from Jitrava, through Ještěd to Kozákov, the highest mountain in the Bohemian Paradise. It is a nice but challenging ridge route with a total length of 50-55 km. However, there are plenty of refreshment and accommodation options along the way. It is best to start from Rozkoš (Bilý kostel nad Nisou, Rozkoš), where there is a bus stop. Then you will climb up to Ještěd, which will reward you with far views of all sides of the world and Liberec hidden in the Ještěd basin. The final summit is Kozákov, where you can have a refreshment and from there take a train or bus to Semily or on the other side to the more distant Turnov."

Along the way you will meet 31 peaks, some of which you have to jump a few dozen metres, but nothing dramatic. We consider completing the challenge as collecting at least 28 peaks. Why "only" 28? There are two castle ruins on the list - Frýdštejn and Vranov-Pantheon, where you need to be on the castle grounds to log a peak, so we don't want to limit you by opening hours. Bienerthův vrch (614 m) can also be a bit problematic, where there are pastures in summer. These three peaks are therefore potentially skippable. Finally, we did not put the problematic Dry Rocks in the challenge at all, which is a beautiful place, but it lies in the NPP where movement off the marked paths is prohibited. Along the way, you'll also encounter a few patron hills, which, although they don't have official names, they were given by their patrons, but they are regular summits with a summit cairn with an officially measured elevation according to the Geoportal of the Czech Geological Survey. What 28 peaks you save or if you can manage all of them is entirely up to you.
