Mountaineer of Chřiby 2024
Challenge duration
Description
The aim of the challenge is to visit 20 selected peaks of the Chřiby Mountains during 2024. A special selection of peaks has been kindly prepared for you by Horobranice Goldie and her faithful Advisor.
Goldie invites you to the Chřiby
"The Chřiby Mountains, also known as the Buchlov Hills or Mountains, are the westernmost spur of the Carpathian Mountains stretching across the centre of Moravia, separating the northern fertile plains of the Haná Mountains from the southern plains of the Slovácko Mountains. The highest peak is Brdo 587 m above sea level, on the top of which stands the eponymous stone lookout tower. The visual dominance of the Chřibů range is represented by three hills, the so-called Triple Peaks, Holý Kopec, Buchlov and Modla, whose significance and symbolism date back to the times of the Great Moravian Empire. Thus, the Chřiby Mountains are a very interesting area both from the natural and historical point of view. Here we can find romantic forest corners, rocks and cliffs, wells, streams, deep valleys and places with a distant view. History has left us with evidence of the settlement of the landscape and the building of the Great Moravian Empire, as well as a large number of monuments, including several castles and chateaus. Many places are shrouded in interesting local legends.
In my selection of twenty hills, I have chosen places that will show you all this natural beauty and the history of the Chřiby region. I did not include the highest peak Brdo with its lookout tower and the castles Buchlov and Hrad because they were part of the previous challenges Lookout Towers I and Castles and Ruins I."
