Bohemian Central Highlands Mountaineer 2022

Do you know that the Bohemian Central Highlands is not a landscape of extinct volcanoes? The often used term is very inaccurate, because most of the peaks in the Bohemian Central Highlands can be described as remnants of laccoliths, i.e. remnants of subsurface magmatic bodies, which due to subsequent erosion have acquired their typical conical shape. The landscape is thus of volcanic origin, but for the most part these hills have never been active volcanoes :-).

We present you this challenge as a ticket to see the beauty of the Bohemian Central Highlands

The aim of the challenge is to visit 20 selected peaks of the Bohemian Central Highlands during 2022. A very careful selection has been prepared by the mountain climber mako88, who is at home in the Central Highlands, is a very active hiker and has visited all 472 peaks. I'm sure you noticed that there are 21 peaks in the list instead of 20. It is because of the peak Vrabinec - ruins, which is seasonally forbidden to climb from March 1 to June 30. You still have a chance to complete the challenge, because we have added a replacement peak, which is Zámecký vrch. From July onwards you can choose which 20 peaks out of a possible 21 you will visit. To complete the challenge, you have to go around any 20 of the 21 peaks.

We are pleased that the Destination Agency České středohoří is cooperating with us on this challenge. Its aim is to provide interesting information about the Bohemian Central Highlands, to present tips for trips, to recommend hiking and cycling routes, to attract local delicacies and products, simply put, to develop tourism in this beautiful destination.

It is definitely worth following their Facebook page, which they take very good care of and post one interesting thing after another. In addition, from April onwards you will be able to watch a weekly series on the highlights of the challenge.

Competition for prizes

Any Horobranik who can complete this challenge by October 2, 2022 will be entered into a contest for book prizes. The drawing will take place the first week of October. The 10 winners will receive a beautiful new book by Jiří Svoboda - Pilgrim through the Bohemian Central Highlands.

Jiří Svoboda is a local author who has written four narrative picture books (The Mystery of the Bohemian Central Highlands, The Miraculous Bohemian Central Highlands, The Eastern Ore Mountains and The Bohemian Central Highlands Wanderer). If you would like to have his latest book, Pilgrim of the Bohemian Central Highlands, without competing, get it from the St. Stephen's Hospice charity shop and contribute to its running.

Announcement of the competition results

The Bohemian Central Highlands Mountaineer Challenge is still running, but thanks to the Destination Agency of the Bohemian Central Highlands, we have already awarded book prizes to 10 successful mountaineers who managed to complete the challenge by the end of September!
