We are a small team of three people — Věrka, Patrik, and Standa. For years, we organized outdoor races around Liberec for our close friends and acquaintances with our association Sehraní. During an autumn trip at the end of 2018, we thought about creating something for the wider public. Something for anyone, anywhere. Standa immediately thought of something involving mountains. How about a summit diary that everyone could have on their phone?
The advantage was that Patrik is a programmer, so solving the technical side was not a problem at all. Before we embarked on it, we needed to find out if something similar already existed. To our surprise, basically all similar projects worked on a web basis, where everyone could click what they wanted. However, we found nothing that would at that time allow verifying that a person had actually visited a mountain. The next step was to obtain data, which was easier than we thought. Nothing is complete, but the database in Open Street Maps was a great start.
We started programming, and the first prototype of the application, which could save a mountain visit to the phone, was ready within two weeks. We weren't lacking motivation and jumped into it headfirst. We worked all winter on the app and the website, on data, and on gradually preparing social networks to spread awareness about the project. We set the launch date for March 1, 2019, and solemnly did so.
The bravest ones went out on the very first day of operation and together visited 23 mountains. We were overjoyed and still are to this day. Today, it's a completely different project with an absolutely amazing community of mountain and travel lovers. We are gradually opening up new countries, and our motivation is still growing. We enjoy that you enjoy it. And now, let's head to the hills again!
